NO Passport required for United States Citizens, however you will need to bring a Drivers License, or a State issued photo identification, or a Passport, or a Birth Certificate along with a photo I D, or a Voter Registration Certificate along with a photo I D. This is needed for your return to the mainland U.S. You must have a valid Passport for day trips to the British Virgin Islands. Citizens of other countries must have a valid Passport and appropriate visa for travel to the United States and/or U.S. possessions.
The island of St. John is reached by ferry boat from St. Thomas, as it does not have an airport. After arrival at St. Thomas airport, take a taxi cab to Downtown Ferry(15 minutes for taxi ride - 45 minutes for boat ride) or to Redhook Ferry(45 minute taxi ride - 20 minute boat ride), and then the ferry boat takes you to Cruz Bay, St. John. Upon arrival in Cruz Bay, take a 5 minute taxi ride to Cruz Bay Villas. Be sure to tell the cab driver that it is the first place on the right up the hill from Cruz Views and print the map below to bring with you.
